J.L.Z.NJONGWE

In Port Elizabeth he [Dr. Alfred Xuma] encouraged a fine team. Its President was Dr. Jimmy Njongwe who, as a medical student at the University of Witwatersrand, had been an early member of the Youth League. A handsome, sober and clear-thinking yet mercurial young man, he was a trifle conservative, with a self-confidence that some mistook for arrogance, and above all an extremely hard worker both in his practice and in organizing the local A. N. C. His independence was not always appreciated by some colleagues.
