PUBLISHER'S NOTE
Gregory Maximoff was one of the most clear-thinking figures in the Russian anarchist movement, and the present essay constitutes a brief but forceful statement of his social views. Though it was written more than forty years ago, i am reprinting it now, in the hope that the younger generation will profit by its combination of lofty idealism with a practical libertarian program.
I dedicate this new edition to the memory of its author, with whom I worked very closely from 1917 until his death in 1950, and of his devoted companion, Olga Freidlin Maximoff, who passed away on May 7, 1973, while the present work was being prepared for publication.
