Mathematics Placement Exam Each Fall, during orientation week, students may take the Mathematics Placement test. The test is intended only for those students who plan to take calculus and is used to help place students into the correct calculus or pre-calculus course, depending on the student's preparation. Any student who needs to take calculus, such as mathematics or science majors (including pre-medical students), or economics majors, for example, should take the placement exam. Students who know that they will not be enrolling in calculus need not take the exam! Non mathematics and science students who are not going to take calculus are encouraged to take one of Pitzer's mathematics for liberal arts courses, such as Math 1, Math 7, Math 8, or Math 10.
AP Credit A student who has received a score of 4 or 5 on the Calculus AB exam will receive credit for Math 30 after passing Math 31. Similarly, a student with a score of 4 or 5 on the Calculus BC exam will receive credit for Math 30 and Math 31 after passing Math 32.
