GOALS

  • To become reacquainted with basic information about the structure and function of DNA and to learn how and why epigenetic processes do what they do.
  • To discover that experiences influence gene expression and to thereby hone a critical perspective of genetic determinism.
  • To develop an appreciation of the differences between stable versus more transient epigenetic marks and to understand something about the physical nature of memory.
  • To obtain a feel for how diets interact with the epigenome.
  • To recognize why research on behavioral epigenetics has mental health professionals so excited.
  • To build an awareness of the complexity of transgenerational inheritance.
  • To improve verbal presentation skills and analytical/dialectical skills.
