Fall, 2010
Here's
only the most pertinent info--I'll discuss details
today in class.
Class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. - 1:10 p.m
All class meetings will be held in Fletcher Hall 112.
My
OFFICE HOURS will be on:
Tuesdays: 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m
Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
If
I need to change these as the semester's schedule becomes
clearer, I'll obviously let you know. Also, if by any bizarre
twist of events this turns out not to be enough, I'll certainly
arrange for others. In addition, I'm free to be scheduled --
in
fact, I'd actually prefer it if you'd make an appointment with me
if you'd like to talk. Under any circumstances, I'll be in my
office or lab lots, so you can just drop on in. If
you want to ask me something, come see me, don't just send me an email.
I'm unlikely to respond to an email from someone I've not yet met in
person.
The TEXTBOOK we'll be reading is:
Lightfoot, C., Cole,
M., and Cole, S.R. (2009).
The
development of children, (6th ed.).
New
York:
Worth Publishers.
A note about
requirements related to experiential learning:
In
addition to
standard tests and papers, everyone in Psych
105 this semester will be expected to participate in the experiential
learning part of the course. This year, this part
will involve an
internship arranged through The Community Engagement Center (CEC) or
The Claremont After- School Program (CLASP). During the first week of
class, you will be
given
information about how this part of the course will work.
You will then be expected to work in one of these community
sites, helping out. Ordinarily, "interns" are expected to
show up
for a couple of hours each week and see firsthand how real
live
children work (or fail to
work). I guarantee that this will be a memorable and valuable
learning experience for everyone (and at the same time, you'll be
doing a very good deed).
