Course Objectives

  • To develop an appreciation of the fact that most phenomena can be studied at several levels of analysis and that a thorough understanding of a phenomenon typically requires multi-level analysis.
  • To nurture an awareness of the value of bringing a developmental point of view to bear when endeavoring to understand psychological phenomena.
  • To gain exposure to various paradigms currently being used by scientists studying mating and its associated behaviors and psychological states.
  • To hone a critical perspective of evolutionary psychology and behavior genetics, one that is missing from popular press accounts of mating behaviors.
  • To improve verbal presentation skills and analytical/dialectical skills.
