REQUIREMENTS FOR PSYCH 199
Everyone will be expected to complete the following :
- Reading assignments. We can only have interesting and exciting
discussions if you do ALL of the reading in advance.
- (20%)--Each of you will be asked to submit at least one question you
thought of while doing the readings each week. These questions should
be submitted (each Friday, by noon) to the student who will be leading
the discussion on the following Monday, to help her/him prepare for
the task. The discussion leader will be responsible for grading the
quality of these questions, and at the end of the semester, your
highest 10 grades will be averaged.
- (30%)--One or two (depending on enrollment) turns as discussion
leader. Being the discussion leader will entail finding--and
assigning--at least two articles on your chosen topic. These articles
can be either empirical articles from research journals or review
chapters from edited books. Either way, plan to have an electronic
copy (in PDF file-format) to me on the Monday one week before your
presentation. In addition, be prepared to tell your classmates on that
Monday what they will need to know as they read the material you're
assigning. Your grade on this section will be jointly determined: your
presentation will be graded by the teacher, and each of your
classmates will submit a grading of your chosen assignments.
- (20%)--Class attendance and participation.
- (30%)--A final short paper that further considers one of the topics
covered during the semester. THIS PAPER WILL BE DUE ON THE FINAL
DAY OF CLASS.
