Medicinal: A decoction was made from the bark for a blood tonic and for asthma. The tea was drunk in place of water for a week. Bark tea was also used as an aid in childbirth.

The hairs from the underside of the leaves were scraped off and mixed with the boiled yolks of quail eggs. This medication relieved throat inflammations.

Construction: Shavar provided good wood for the construction of homes, sweats, and arbors.
