"Agbayani Village: A Documentary Film on Filipinos and Latinos in the United Farm Worker Movement."

PROJECT SUMMARY:
Leora Aquino writes: "The project I aim to create is a documentary focusing on Agbayani Village as a symbol of solidarity between the Filipinos and Latinos in the United Farm Worker movement. A theme the documentary will show include how everyday people can contribute to a movement."

Asian American Studies majors design collaborative, and community-based thesis that addresses food justice issues.

SENIORS: James Kato, PO '09
Joyce Kim, PO '09
Jessica Lee, PO '09
Sarah Park , PO '09

Senior Project Description:
"As Asian American Studies majors at the Claremont Colleges, we wanted to create a senior thesis that reflects the principles of Asian American studies--self-determination, relevant education, and building academia-community partnerships. The four of us are collaboratively writing a thesis with theory based in and practiced at a Los Angeles community organization called the Southeast Asian Community Alliance (SEACA). We wanted to address the lack of APIA involvement in the Environmental Justice Movement and confront the environmental injustices that various communities face, particularly through the lens of food."
